Palma Airport Car Hire

car hire in PalmaIf you want to explore the Island of Mallorca without being tied to public transport timetables or do not want to wait around for taxis, you should hire a car. It is better to pre-book a car before you arrive at Palma as this will cut down on time filling in paperwork and also ensure that you get the make and model of vehicle you require. You can often also secure the best deal by booking in advance.

To collect your hire car you need to present your driving licence, passport and booking documentation to the relevant desk which will be located on the ground floor in the public arrivals area of the main airport terminal.

Car Hire at Palma Airport

CAr Hire at Palma AirportWhen you collect your car make sure that you check it for any dents or damage, and if you do find anything it should be listed on the car hire representative’s paperwork.  This check is important as if you do not point out any damage which is not listed then you could be liable for it when you return the car.

Also make sure you familiarise yourself with the car’s controls before you drive off (lights, windscreen wipers indicators, fuel tank lock, etc) as if there is anything you are unsure of the staff member of the rent a car agency can assist.

When driving in Spain it is compulsory for everyone in the car to wear seatbelts and under 12’s are not allowed in the front seats (unless they are over 150 cm when they are tall enough to be secure in the safety belt).

Speed limits in Mallorca are as follows:

  • 120kph on motorways
  • 100kph on dual carriageways
  • 90kph on country roads
  • 50kph for urban roads
  • 20kph in residential areas
